Hope everyone had a fun Valentine’s Day yesterday and with any luck part of that fun was some spanking. Spanking and Valentine’s Day do indeed go together too. Here is a post from a few years ago in which we share the connection.
Enjoy!

While mixing Valentine’s Day with spanking on a spanking blog isn’t much of a stretch… it surely would seem like a strange combination to our vanilla friends. Valentine’s Day is about cards, flowers and chocolates after all… not kinky things like spanking.
The truth is though, Valentine’s Day is *very* much about spanking! Here is the story…
In the 490s AD Pope Gelasius I declared February 14 to be St. Valentine’s Day. Why did he do that? Well, there are a
few different stories that try to explain. A popular one holds that Roman emperor Claudius II banned marriage, because men were marrying to avoid military service (only single men served). Despite the ban, a Christian priest named Valentinus continued to perform marriage ceremonies. He was caught and executed… on February 14th (269 AD).
Sounds good, but it probably isn’t true. Pagans had been celebrating a holiday on February 14 and 15 for many years… and even though most had converted to Christianity… they continued celebrating the old Pagan holidays, complete with the old ceremonies and rituals. The Pope wanted to stop that, so he created a new more Christian friendly holiday to replace the old Pagan one.
What was the old Pagan holiday about? Luperca’lia was a celebration in honor of Lupa, the she-wolf
that suckled Romulus and Remus (the founders of Rome). There were several gods honored… including the gods or goddesses of marriage, health and fertility. Lots of festivities to go with the food and wine… and overall, it was a good time.
Part of that good time included a ‘sex lottey’ in which single ladies threw their name into a bag… and then single men
would randomly pick names. The new couplings would then go off and enjoy some wine and sex. No idea why the Pope wasn’t down with this… lol.
Of course, the Romans wanted more than a good time to come from all that sex. They wanted some babies too (for the future army)… and there was a ritual to help ensure that happened.
Goats were sacrificed, there was a ritual involving blood, dancing and laughing (these were Pagans after all)… and then parts of the goat hide were made into whips. Young men would then run through town… whipping women. Women gleeful lined up for a turn too… since a session with the whip removed curses and bad luck (the main causes of infertility). We’re guessing they were probably spankos too.
So, sex and spanking. Those Pagans knew how to have a good time!
Of course, they probably stole the idea from the Greeks… and who knows where they got if from.
Do know it *didn’t* start with Hallmark Cards, Flowers from FTD and Candy from Godiva though. Spanking has a heck of lot more to do with where Valentine’s Day comes from than any of those things do. So… please… enjoy a Valentine’s spanking!
As for the sex lottery… well… lol… only if you’re feeling really lucky.

Lupercalia does makes Valentine’s Day seem a bit tame. Imagine if people bought floggers rather than chocolates, and sent cards saying how much they wanted to put a special someone over their knee for a good spanking… the ancient traditions should be revived!
To commemorate the occasion, I’ve just written a new story, a tale of spanking and ritual. Lovers of the Spirit of Lupercalia might enjoy it…

Happy Lupercalia!
