Roundtable Wrap-Up

November 8th, 2009

How often do you or your spankee receive “aftercare” long after a spanking is over? Does it ever happen more than a day after a spanking? How does the aftercare work? Is there ever any “self-directed” and/or voluntary aftercare done by the spankee? Are pain medications (Tylenol, Aleve, etc) ever used after a spanking?

Extended aftercare is something we’re both quite familiar with. Aftercare is one of our favorite parts of a spanking, so extending it long after the fact works great for us. We’re wondering what other spankos think of extended aftercare though… thus this week’s topic. A big thank too to all that took the time to share their thoughts. We do appreciate it!

Let’s jump into the wrap-up by taking a look at the Quick Response Poll results.

How often do you or your spankee receive “aftercare” long after a spanking is over?
Almost all the time. ~ 26%
Frequently. ~ 15%
Sometimes. ~ 22%
Rarely. ~ 19%
Never. ~ 19%

The results are spread out pretty evenly. In fact, that’s about as even a spread as we’ve seen in a poll. The comments give some interesting insights though, and we invite you to check them out below.

Emma said: I’d have to say that our aftercare rarely extends passed the time immediately following a spanking, though I would certainly like it to. I’m pretty spoiled in the immediate aftercare category, I always get cuddled for as long as I need and Jack likes to apply lotion following a particularly hard spanking although I personally prefer none.

However, being in a situation where we only see each other for a few days at a time, once we head home the aftercare effectively ends. On the other hand, since we pack so much spanking into the short time we’re together, it can take me a while to fully pull out of the emotional state brought on by those activities. A little follow-up in the coming days would go a long way to easing some of that… I can’t think of quite the right word so I’ll go with “emotional upheaval.”

~We both agree that the aftercare immediately after the spanking is the most important, so it’s great that you have that part so nicely covered. Totally understand about this distance thing too. We’ve used ’self-directed aftercare’ to compensate for that a bit. The spankee is given specific instructions on aftercare to do, and there is follow-up to make sure it’s happening… along of course with several talks in the days after.~

iggy said: My aftercare tends to be pretty extended just because I’m a bruiser. It took me over 6 weeks to heal after the FMS in June so there was a lot of arnica gel application during that time after the spankings were long long over. I’m just a slow healer. It was a good week or two after the SSC as well.

The emotional stuff as well I have to deal with on my own, sometimes more successfully than others. I had quite bad party drop after the SSC, but because it’s just me and I’m all alone I have to deal with it by myself. Sometimes it’s hard.

Plus, I guess I should add my aftercare is all provided just by me, I’ve never had aftercare from a spanker.

~Some brute must have really been beating on you at that FMS party too. Did you get his name? Seriously though, 6 weeks is a looong time. Bet we can get that same brute to gladly do some aftercare for you next time.~

Burl said: My Disciplinarian describes me as a heavy player. Our sessions are very intense. I heal physically fairly quickly but it is almost a certainty that I will experience sub-drop in the days after the session. If I am unable to make contact with my Disciplinarian while I am riding the sub-drop roller coaster, I feel isolated, hurt, and abandoned. I only need an email or a text message to make everything alright so my Disciplinarian makes it a priority to keep in contact with me during that time. This form of aftercare is crucial to me.

~Glad you shared your insights… because we think the emotional type of aftercare you’re talking about is often overlooked. It really is critical though, especially after an emotion filled spanking. We work hard to avoid those types of spanking when time is an issue, but when it does happen… that follow-up is a must.~

BlackVelvet007 said: As odd as this may sound, tops/spankers need aftercare too. Seriously, if I don’t give the spankee I just played with a big hug, I feel horrible afterwards. One of my all time favorite spankees actually said to me more than once that she didn’t really need aftercare, and I just looked at her with my arms extended saying “Well I do, ok?”

~Know what you mean. A spanker realizes that at a very real level they are inflicting *pain* on another person and it’s nice to know that doing so went well and all is okay in the spankee’s mind.~

munchkin said: I guess I haven’t really experienced much in the way of aftercare from a spanker. If there is any ice or moisturizing the skin later, I just do it myself. The quick hug after a spanking with a friend I don’t consider aftercare, more just one of those things you’re expected to do. A few times, the young guy I played with would, after a particularly hard session, hug me and let me cling for a little bit which was nice. I think of that as a little different than the obligatory hug, this was more because it got pretty intense and I needed to cling and he realized that. A few spankers have sort of rubbed away the sting a bit during a spanking. Otherwise, have never done anything like the lotioning thing right afterwards, which honestly I don’t see as all that soothing anyway. If I do anything like lotion in the days afterward, it has more to do with dry skin after a long session than anything soothing.

~Think most would agree that lotion further helps rub away a bit more sting. A lot of aftercare is probably an emotional downtime though. You should give it a try!~

Spankedhortic said: I am usually on a train, not long after playing, so there is little time for aftercare from a spanker. Usually my aftercare consists of moisturizing with coconut oil 2 or 3 times a day for a few days after playing. But when my Butt is unwhupped I usually moisturize once a day anyway.

Emotionally, I am on my own but I cope with the drop better on my own anyway, so that is no big deal.

~Aftercare on a train would certainly be interesting, ;) Have you always dealt with “drop” pretty well, or was figuring that out a process for you?~

Suzy Says:  Immediate aftercare is always there for me and for that I’m extremely happy :)   We also have pretty regular bottom care but it’s not always considered ‘aftercare’ since many times I haven’t been spanked prior to it.  When I am very sore from a party or from a discipline spanking even later in the day or night, then Todd will often offer to apply lotion or other attention to whatever hurts.    Luckily my bottom usually recovers pretty quickly and I’ve only experienced severe soreness days later after one party ’so far’ and I also had my first major post party drop that same time and Todd was wonderful giving me hugs, lotion, rubs, ice, more hugs, etc.. etc.. until I was all better both mentally and physically.

Todd Says: I’m usually always open to giving aftercare… and unless time is an issue or the spankee isn’t interested, it usually happens. It feels “nice” to me, and thus is a good transition thing to do after a spanking. A spankee has to be really comfortable with me, or at least really relaxed and open minded for it to happen though… because (physical) aftercare involves rubbing the bottom. If a spankee isn’t cool with that, I understand… and I *do* enjoy a hug afterwards, because that’s nice too.

When it comes to extended aftercare, that tends to be a different thing. It’s not really a “nice thing to do after the spanking” because the spanking is long over. There certainly is some very real care being given to a sore bottom. Lotion and the like *do* help and I am a big proponent of taking care of a spanked bottom. Beyond that though, extended aftercare tends to be more of an emotional exchange.

It depends on the spankee and the spanking of course, but the atmosphere is relaxed and settled. It’s a great time to talk. Can discuss how the earlier spanking had gone or different elements of a discipline relationship (expectations, thoughts). I can get feedback… or, just offer emotional comfort.

Extended aftercare is an awesome way to close out a day. It’s the perfect thing to do before bed. Have a spankee come to me in her PJs… I pull then down, examine her bare bottom, put her over my lap and apply lotion… discuss the spanking… how proud I am of her for taking the spanking so bravely, and how I know she’s going to try her best to be a good girl.

In fact, I enjoy it so much… Suzy pretty much gets a butt rub every night, whether she’s been spanked that day or not. :)

As for self-directed aftercare, I’ve certainly done that. A spankee should take care of her asset after all. And pain meds… ::shrug:: … I’ve seen spankees take an Advil or something like that. Even had a few ask if it’s okay… and I certainly don’t mind.

I think that you may have read me a little wrong. I have a terrible time with crashing/subdrop and am always open to tips about coping with it. I just cope with it on my own better than I do if I have company.
